O-Bits: Death and Taxis Edition

The Killer Kabbie, a hack who was supposed to be hacking up passengers all over New York? Doesn’t exist, at least if you believe Snopes. We’re inclined to take their word on this, especially since the photo of the driver was also used to illustrate a similar story in Zambia. Hmm…Multiple stories of dangerous taxi drivers that don’t star Robert DeNiro?  Could Uber have hired the Internet Research Agency to spread this rumor? If they did, karma is, indeed, a bitch, as USA Today reports that an Atlanta Uber Eats driver is suspected of delivering food to a customer then killing them. (Funny, I’ve never seen that option on my app….)  An Uber spokesman said the company was “shocked and saddened by this news,” which we guess is the corporate version os “thoughts and prayers.”

The barista who made your latte this morning? Probably a Millennial, right? Sure, they make good coffee, but there’s a good chance they’re “killing it”…well, a metaphorical way. KDVR, Denver’s Fox affiliate, is running a story that lists the number of things Millennials have been accused of killing. It includes: Fast casual dining chains such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebee’s and Ruby Tuesday (if this is true, a grateful nation thanks you); Home Ownership, Movie Theaters, Cable TV, Diamonds, Cereal, and—we’re having a little trouble with this one—Napkins.

There’s one more thing Millennials might get rid of, and that’s Assault rifles. Watching the students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School express themselves on both social and mainstream media has been the lone ray of light in a horrible tragedy. Emma Gonzalez and other survivors spoke passionately and humanely (see video below),  and Christine Yared, a freshman at the school, had an equally passionate and poised op-ed in the New York Times.  A nationwide National School Walkout and  March For Our Lives are being planned for March 14 and 24, respectively.
