O-Bits: Crypt-o Currencies Edition

Add Bill Gates to the list of people accusing things of murder. In a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session yesterday, the Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist explained why he believes crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin has murderous intent. “Right now crypto-currencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way.” We have to agree with him. Once technology finally harnesses its ability to kill, we’re all in trouble.

You might not want to die in La Plata County, Colorado, by natural or digital causes. The country’s growth in the number of people living there has led to a similar increase in the amount of people dying there, and the coroner’s office just can’t keep up. “This is one of the challenges of growth, right here,” Chuck Stevens, assistant La Plata County manager told the Durango Herald, a sentiment we don’t think will be showing up on any of the county’s publications…

Finally,  Birth Death Movies runs a eulogy for “Television Cuts” of horror movies—the practice of editing out the goriest parts and replacing them with outtakes, stock footage, and sometimes specially produced scenes. Brian Collins misses them, calling them an “amusing little footnote for any number of genre films.” His reverie is caused by the reissue of the horror movie, “Eye of the Cat”  a 1969 B movie scripted by Joesph Stefano (better known for writing the script for “Psycho”), shot by the great Russell Metty with music by Lola Schifrin (“Mission: Impossible”). Sounds interesting, but in the Animal Horror genre, give us “Night of the Lepus.” Giant Rabbits…and not friendly giant rabbits like Harvey, or the Trix Rabbit; murderous rabbits…brrrr.
