Dead of the Day: Who Died on November 29: George Harrison, 2001

On of the biggest pop stars in the pantheon of giant pop stars was British Beatle George Harrison – transcended earth on November 29, 2001, after a battle with lung cancer, at age 58.. The lead guitar player of the Beatles authored some of their best songs, including While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Something. He was also a member of Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison. Harrison’s solo albums, after the epic breakup of the Beatles, were also beautifully constructed and produced – and very successful – with songs like Bangladesh and My Sweet Lord . as evidence of his lifelong spiritual beliefs. For anyone who hasn’t seen Martin Scorsese’s two part HBO documentary on the full life of George Harrison

Also passing on November 29th were American artist Dan Flavin, in 1996, at age 63, and famed Italian designer of prints Emilio Pucci, who died at age 78 in 1992.
